Congratulations to the 2023 Team Members at NAYC - Traverse City, USA

This prestigious award was given to Winzalot owned by Jamie Prestana Shortz and has represented Region 7 several times during the North American Youth Championships with both his owner and leassee Emme Chisholm.  In 2010 Jamie and Winzalot earned the Gold Medal in both the Junior Individual and Freestyle divisions. They were also members of the Silver Medal Junior team of 2010.   In 2012 the pair returned as Young Riders and captured the Team Silver Medal alongside Region 7 teammates Jaclyn Pepper, Genay Vaughn, and Mackinzie Pooley.  2013 Winzalot and Jamie lead the Region 7 Young Rider team to GOLD MEDAL!! This time they captured gold with the help of Jaclyn Pepper, Ariel Thomas, and Teresa Adams.  The duo didn’t stop there and went on to earn Individual Silver and Freestyle Silver to round out a triple podium finish at NAYC 2013.  In 2023, Junior Rider Emme Chisholm took over the reigns and once again Winzalot enjoyed the spotlight returning to NAYC 10 years after his last appearance.  Winzalot and Emme were honored as the recipeints of the 2023 HorsePower Trophy.

USDF NORTH AMERICAN YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP - NAYC

Region 7 Young Rider, Christian Simonson, of Ventura, CA, and his Danish Warmblood gelding, Zeaball Diawind, were awarded the Fiona Baan “Pursuit of Excellence” Memorial Trophy at the North American Youth Dressage Championships. This trophy is awarded to the Young Rider who earns the highest combined average score in the three dressage tests: FEI Young Rider Team, Individual, and Freestyle. Simonson placed first in the team, individual, and freestyle tests, with scores of 73.588%, 75.353%, and 78.935% respectively, securing the win with an overall combined average of 75.959%.
The “Pursuit of Excellence” is the legacy Fiona Baan left to all FEI Young Riders, and indeed, to everyone who ever knew or worked with her. For nearly 30 years, Ms. Baan worked tirelessly with great dedication to the United States Equestrian Team (USET). She was U.S. Dressage Team Leader for the 1976 Olympics Bronze Medal team, the 1987 Pan Am Games, and for the bronze medal dressage team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
